2014 Silverado Rear Differential Fluid Type - mautic

I have about 20k miles on it and would like to change the front and rear diff.

Please be noted that all capacities listed here are approximate.

The truck has 48,000 miles and the rear fluid came out a dark golden brown and it smelled of grapes and diff.

Differential oil capacity up to 2. 0 quarts (front) 2. 2 quarts (rear with 8. 6” diff. ) 2. 75 quarts (rear with 9. 5” and 10. 5” diff. )

— the truck is a 2014 sierra, 5. 3l w a 3. 42 rear dif, and if it matters, the diff cover has 12 bolts.

— if you have the open diff you can use any synthetic 75w90 gl5 oil that floats your boat.

I was under the impression that the 2500 and 3500 rear differentials were made by dana while the 1500 diffs were made by eaton.

An 8. 6 inch rear differential is equipped with 4. 2 pints and the silverado's 9. 5 inch rear, uses5. 5 pints.

— personally, i'm a firm believer that differential gear sets go through a break in period when new and should have the fluid changed in the rear diff by the 5k mile mark.

— gear oil is the most common fluid used in rear differentials.

You can do it for far less, with better materials.

Mobil 1 synthetic also says add it.

The gm juice is cheaper online from outfits like summit and amazon than it is from any.
